I thusfar can’t locate reports of any medicinal applications but assume the native people here probably used it for something. A number of the Polygala species are used in medicine or as herbs in asian cultures.
It is still blooming right now (5 may) and has been for a few days which was when these images were taken.
Sunlight makes the red really intense and also lights up many small reflector bodies.
Whipplea modesta is also known as Yerba del selva and Modesty. The first common name suggests it may have medicinal use but I have not been able to confirm that.

Titiotus is a genus of fairly large spiders that is endemic to California.
I don’t know the species. The body on this is almost an inch long (longer than 2 cm).
These are fairly aggressive; or at least they bite me.

Paeromopus angusticeps buttensis is one of the millipedes that live here.
It was difficult to photograph this due to it constantly moving so fast that the legs and the body were a blur of motion. The images with detail were obtained by placing the animal in a refrigerator for half an hour prior to taking the photographs.
