This has been by far the best year for the Prince Agarics at this location since I’ve been here.
Not very many at once but a series of fruitings have been occurring in any one of four zones around home — for months now. Today is 31 July and two more came up that I did not notice until worms had claimed them. This one is loved by more than humans and if it is not found early and refrigerated promptly will rapidly determine the degree to which a person does or does not mind eating small fly larvae.
The prince is fairly easy to identify (foolproof with familiarity) and amazingly delicious in an almond extract kind of way.

Those gills will darken and go brown. Those on potential lookalikes often turn pink.
The smell and flavor are unmistakeable.
